The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
